To further Vancouver Energy’s commitment to safety, the terminal will only accept rail cars that meet or exceed the federal regulations announced in May 2015
(known as the DOT-117 standard) at the terminal. We stand firm in that commitment – we won’t accept legacy DOT 111s at the terminal. We will also require all terminal users to ship crude oil in rail cars with a minimum shell thickness of 9/16 for any DOT-117R.
As a key customer of the Vancouver Energy terminal, Tesoro is making further upgrades to its crude oil rail car fleet with the addition of 525 DOT 120J tank cars that further exceed the newest safe transport standards. These cars are in addition to the previous order of 210 tank cars Tesoro announced in 2015.
